Tom Ford Becomes the Unexpected Master of Soul

Tom Ford Exposes Soulful Substance in "A Single Man"

Colin Firth was nominated for a best actor in "A Single Man" role playing a gay man whose orderly life comes undone when his longtime companion dies unexpectedly. Read my thoughts on why I have always adored Tom Ford's view of women and V Magazine's recent interview The Truth about Tom Ford. Anne

Toyota's Venture Into User-Produced Advert Backfires

The London Times headline reads: Toyota forced to pull lewd advert.

This controversy does seem to take political correctness to the wall, but if the car is sold primarily to young women, the ad has nothing to do with the bosom standing in the background.Click to play

Irving Penn's Smart Sensuality Subjects

Alaskan Salmon Roe: Perfect Smart Sensuality Food

I wrote a major piece on Irving Penn this weekend, and joking used one of his sexy food photos in Love Potions, driving home my deeply held belief that sexy food and aphrodisiacs are also our best health foods for longevity and overall wellbeing.

Bingo. Science weighed in this morning, calling salmon roe (wild from Alaska please) the most perfect source of omega3.

Blaming Big Pharma for America's Bad Attitude About Older Women

From Anne of Carversville

Updates on Hormone Replacement Therapy & Menopause

Yesterday's NYTimes ran a major feature on big pharma and menopause, with the focus on hormone replacement therapy. The article was hardly neutral and accused big pharma of medicalizing a natural part of the aging process. I'm a believer in hormone replacement therapy for myself and update important ommissions from the NYT piece.

I DO agree that America has an antiquated view of older women, compared to France, Italy and Brazil. But I blame this unfortunate for women reality on the culture, not big pharma. It is true that big pharma spends so much money on marketing, that they can declare and define 'illness' just as they wish. Anne

Exercise and Sex Promote Longevity

From Anne of Carversville

Young Body Equals Longer Life & Good Sex Helps, Too

British researchers say that young looks typically deliver a longer life. We probe further, returning to the work of Dr. David Weeks and his concept of Superyoung and the lifestyles of people who look 10 years or more younger than their real age. The top two characteristics of these people are sex three times a week (or more) and lots of exercise. The bottom line for the British researchers is telomeres, the pieces of DNA tjhat shorten as we age. Google telomeres+exercise, and the research comes together in a scientific explanation of why exercise gives us youth and longevity.

Tiger Troubles Take A New Turn

The Daily Mail UK has a major story on Tiger Woods and his alleged two-year affair with the $8/hr. cocktail waitress at the Perkins diner in Orlando, Florida. Is Mindy Lawton really woman #4? Or #5? Who is 'porn star' Holly Sampson, also mentioned in the Daily Mail story?

The most interesting part of the story is that according to the Daily Mail, a tabloid photo team has had Tiger's sensual gadabouts under surveillance for about two years.

Will Very Thin, Rich Women Buy Beauty Fat?

The thought is a terrible one -- horrific really -- and yet we believe in our headline: Will Poor People Die, Feeding a Human Fat Supply to Beauty Doctors? Truthfully, it's already happening. via Anne of Carversville

New Study Calls Porn 'A Quiet Family Killer'

The Family Research Countil has released a new survey on pornography. The questions used in the study aren't available online or in the PDF. Many of the conclusions in the survey are confirmed by existing research on pornography useage and others raise questions for further investigation.

The Catholic News Agency outlines key findings: New study on effects of pornography reveals 'a quiet family killer,' researcher says.

The study reports that men who regularly view pornography have a higher tolerance for abnormal sexuality, including rape, sexual aggression and sexual promiscuity.

Married men involved in pornography report feeling less satisfied with their marital relations and less emotionally attached to their wives, the study says. It also notes that men who regularly use pornography or women who engage in “cybersex” show increased infidelity.

The research doesn't mention that the greatest consumers of porn are men living in highly religious, conservative communities, based on their IP addresses and not answers to study questionnaires.

Free Sex Awaits Copenhagen Delegates

While writing about unraveling events around climate talks in Copenhagen, there's one story in the city not going ice cold. Prostitution is legal in Copenhagen but delegates have been sternly warned that buying sex is a no-no.

In all honesty, the last thing the climate talks need is a sex scandal right now. Not to worry. Copenhagen Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard and the city council had postcards sent to 160 hotels urging people coming to town for next week’s UN Climate Change Conference to "be sustainable – don't buy sex,"

The Sex Workers Interest Group cried discrimination over not being able to conduct their legal business as usual. The night birds of Copenhagen are offering a little love free to delegates, a gesture of international good will.

According to the NY Daily News, the ladies are giving a "comp romp" to anyone who can produce a warming card and summit ID badge.

Harlequin Books Liberated More Than Laced-Up Bodices

Harlequin romance covers are mounted in a 60th anniversary exhibit at the Paris Las Vegas. "The Heart of a Woman" exhibit is just off the casino floor, between La Reception and Les Toilettes.

Curated by Elizabeth Semmelhack, author of "Heights of Fashion: A History of the Elevated Shoe," the 60 year anniversary exhibit puts Harlequin covers at the forefront of women's changing status as sexy women in the workplace.

In America 'she' was still the nurse and he the doctor, but when the fantasy left American shores, she carried the black bag. One doesn't typically think of romance novels being ahead of the second wave of feminism, but Harlequin covers tell the real story of women's liberation in America. via LA Times
